FRANK MOORE MEMORIAL IS SATURDAY

May 27, 2022 3:40 a.m.

The legendary Frank Moore will be remembered in a memorial service on Saturday.

Known as a World War II hero and for his longtime promotion of fishing and conservation on the North Umpqua River, Moore passed away on January 23rd. That was just a week before he would have turned 99 years old. Moore and his wife Jeanne came to the Umpqua Valley after his military service. He eventually built Steamboat Inn. In 2019, Congress designated approximately 100,000 acres of public lands up the North Umpqua as the Frank and Jeanne Moore Wild Steelhead Sanctuary.

The memorial will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Douglas Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and is open to the public. Those attending are asked to bring a written memory of Moore to the service. They will be complied in a book for the family.

Donations in memory of Frank Moore can be made to Source One Serenity, North Umpqua Foundation or The Steamboaters.
