MT. REUBEN FIRE BURNS NEARLY FIVE ACRES MONDAY

May 25, 2022 3:40 a.m.

A fire in Glendale burned nearly five acres on Monday.

Rachael Pope of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said it was reported as being about a half-acre of blackberry bushes on fire, just after 1:00 p.m. The fire was located in the 2700 block of Mt. Reuben Road. DFPA crews were assisted by the Glendale Rural Fire Department and other local rural departments who worked to suppress the fire which was threatening multiple structures. Pope said the fire was found to be fully suppressed by 8:00 p.m.

The cause of the fire was found to be human caused due to the improper disposal of wood stove ashes.

Pope said the fire serves as an important reminder to properly extinguish burn piles, campfires and hot ashes. With the current increase in temperature and lack of substantial rain, fuels are dry and ready to burn.
