A memorial service for Frank Moore will be held on Saturday May 28th.
The legendary World War II hero and fisherman passed away January 23rd, one week shy of his 99th birthday. Moore, who built Steamboat Inn, was well known for his work in promoting fishing and conservation on the North Umpqua River. In 2019, Congress designated approximately 100,000 acres of public lands up the North Umpqua as the Frank and Jeanne Moore Wild Steelhead Sanctuary.
The event is open to the community and will be held in Douglas Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Daughter Colleen Bechtel told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN those attending are encouraged to bring a written memory of Frank to the service. Bechtel said those will be compiled in a book for the family.
Retired Pastor Mike Miller of Glide will officiate.
Bechtel said donations in Frank’s memory can be made to Source One Serenity, North Umpqua Foundation, or the Steamboaters. Addresses for those organizations are posted at www.541radio.com
The service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
