MAN JAILED IN CONNECTION WITH ALLEGED STOLEN VEHICLE

May 4, 2022 3:00 a.m.

Sutherlin Police arrested a man in connection with an alleged stolen vehicle incident on Monday.

Captain Kurt Sorenson said the suspect reportedly took a victim’s key and left in her SUV, while the pair was at a business on West Central Avenue just before 6:00 p.m.  Sorenson said the SUV is a replacement vehicle as the victim’s car was involved in an accident a couple of weeks ago. The suspect, identified as 35-year old Thomas Marshall had no legal right to the keys or the SUV, and the victim signed the stolen vehicle report as the sole person responsible for the SUV, according to the report.

At 11:45 p.m. an officer arrested Marshall, who was a passenger in another vehicle. The suspect denied taking the vehicle even through the incident is allegedly on video. Marshall would not say where the SUV was located.

Marshall was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle. After arraignment, he remained detained on $10,000 bail in the Douglas County Jail.

An investigation is continuing by SPD.
