On Tuesday, Congressman Peter DeFazio released a statement in response to a leaked U.S. Supreme Court ruling which would overturn a half-century precedent under Roe v. Wade that protects a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion.

DeFazio said, “Last night, press leaked a draft Supreme Court decision on the Mississippi Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. If enacted, this ruling would have a profound impact on American life, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion established nearly 50 years ago under Roe v. Wade”.

DeFazio said, “This is not an official decision, the Supreme Court has not ruled on this case. Abortion is still legal for now”.

DeFazio said, “Let me be clear: the government has no place in deciding for a woman what she chooses to do with her own body”.
