Troopers with Oregon State Police arrested a subject who allegedly stole an ambulance from a crash scene on Friday night.

An OSP report said just after 7:30 p.m. troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate Five about two miles north of Woodburn. When troopers arrived, the operator of the crashed vehicle, identified as 30-year old Noor Mohammad Baheej of Winnetka, California, attempted to flee. The driver returned and allegedly stole the Woodburn ambulance that was on the scene. Baheej reportedly drove north on the freeway into Portland where he continued to elude police. Attempts were made to pin the ambulance, but Baheej allegedly rammed a patrol vehicle, struck a building and was able to continue to elude troopers.

The report said the ambulance was again located on Interstate Five southbound north of Tigard. The driver stopped the ambulance and attempted to gain entry into another vehicle on the roadway. Troopers were able to take Baheej into custody without further incident.

Baheej displayed multiple signs of impairment. After an investigation, he was charged with DUII-alcohol, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempt to elude, reckless driving and for failure to perform the duties of a driver. The suspect had a blood alcohol level of .21, nearly three times the legal level for intoxication, according to the report. He was detained without bail.
