DEFAZIO ANNOUNCES $153 MILLION FOR OREGON TRANSIT

April 7, 2022 3:20 a.m.

Congressman Peter DeFazio has announced that Oregon will receive just over $153 million in funding from the Federal Transit Administration to support public transit across the state in Fiscal Year 2022.

DeFazio said, “Transit connects our communities, our families, our businesses and our lives”. DeFazio said that investments in transit reduce congestion on roads, improve the environment, and help deal with the threat of climate change. He said, “I’m proud to have secured historic levels of funding to better transit infrastructure throughout Oregon. I’m glad the administration heeded my calls for this much needed investment and is moving quickly to disburse transit funding across the nation”.

A release said the funding announced Wednesday comes from the Mass Transit Account of the Highway Trust Fund and advance appropriations both provided by the infrastructure law. Funding will be provided to states and urbanized areas that then distribute funds to specific transit agencies and other providers.
