Registration is now open for the next Lifestyle & Nutrition course presented by Umpqua Community Veg Education Group.

Information from Juliete Palenshus, the Executive Director of UC Veg, said the informational classes begin Thursday, April 21st with an optional orientation on Tuesday, April 19th.

The Lifestyle & Nutrition Course is described as a 13 week, evidence-based, disease prevention and reversal series, that has served 3,258 participants since 2015.

Palenshus said the course shares simple, safe, affordable, and practical methods that result in health restoration.

New topics are covered each week, addressing the leading causes of death in the U.S and in Douglas County, including heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other chronic illnesses, as well as how to view and manage stress, mindfulness, avoiding toxins and chemicals, and moving naturally by incorporating more exercise into daily routines.

The program is complemented with practical cooking demos, informational packets, and easy, affordable recipes to make eating better taste great.

Participants’ health improvements are verifiable through pre and post blood draws generously provided at the start and end of the course by CHI Mercy.

Data from UC Veg shows that 80% of participants lose weight throughout the course, while 96% of participants lose inches around the abdominal circumference. 27% of participants improve their A1c, a marker for diabetes.

The Lifestyle & Nutrition Course is made possible by the Umpqua Health Alliance, CHI Mercy Medical Center, Aviva Health, Thrive Umpqua, Oregon Humanities and Pita Pit Roseburg.
