March 15, 2022 11:00 a.m.

Monday night the Roseburg City Council adopted an ordinance regarding wrecked, dismantled and abandoned vehicles.

Notes from staff said this will help the Police Department better deal with these types of vehicles. The amendment now addresses hazardous materials in vehicles as well. The ordinance differentiates between vehicles on private and public property. It changes the allowed time for abandoned vehicles to stay on public property to 24 hours. The ordinance added language allowing for property retrieval for 30 days. It also added a vehicle compliance section to ensure that abandoned vehicles leave the city for at least 30 days, or move out of the area, following a pre-tow notice.

Staff said there are current situations with some recreational vehicles in the City in which health concerns are affecting public property. The ordinance was adopted with an emergency clause to make it effective upon adoption to provide tools to address these situations immediately.
