On Wednesday, Roseburg High School notified parents of recent unsubstantiated threats.

Principal Jill Weber sent an email to families regarding rumors of alleged threats. Weber said the school received anonymous reports of threatening language written in a bathroom on the campus. Weber said administrators immediately contacted law enforcement and began an investigation. After a thorough search, no evidence was found of threatening language in any of the bathrooms on campus.

Weber said “Unfortunately, rumors have persisted, and some refer to a threat of violence on March 14th. Continuing investigation by our administrators and the Roseburg Police Department has found the reports to be unsubstantiated. However, our school resource officer and district safety coordinator will maintain a presence on campus that day out of an abundance of caution”.

Weber’s email said parents should speak with their children about their role in school safety. Weber said students should know that if they notice any suspicious or threatening behavior, they should report it to a trusted adult. Weber said situations like that are immediately investigated and if appropriate, reported to law enforcement.

Weber said students should be reminded to refrain from sharing rumors once an incident has been reported.

Weber told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that student health and safety is the top priority at RHS. Weber said all potential threats are taken seriously and are thoroughly investigated as part of ongoing efforts to address the safety and security of their buildings.
