FILINGS SET FOR 2022 MAY PRIMARY ELECTION

March 9, 2022 4:20 a.m.

With the deadline to file as a candidate for the May Primary Election passing on Tuesday, the field of those running is now set.

Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that no one else filed for one of the 3 seats on the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday. That leaves incumbent Commissioner in Position 3 Chris Boice with 4 opponents while Tom Kress and Tim Freeman each have 2 for positions 1 and 2 respectively.

In the legislature, State Representative David Brock Smith in House District 1 will face Democrat Bret Cecil in the November General Election, but has no primary opponent. In House District 2, Republican Virgil Osborne will take on Democrat Rainey Lambert in November. Due to district boundaries being changed following the 2020 Census, incumbent State Representative Christine Goodwin is hoping to move from District 2, to District 4, which now includes her Myrtle Creek area residence and goes south to the Grants Pass area. She is the lone filer for that seat. Also due to a change in boundaries, current State Representative Cedric Hayden, who now serves in House District 7, is seeking the Senate District 6 seat. The Fall Creek Republican will go up against Democrat Ashley Pelton in November. Democratic State Senator Floyd Prozanski is running for another term in Senate District 4 and has no opposition.

8 Democrats and 1 Republican are running for the U.S. House District 4 seat held by Peter DeFazio. The longtime Congressman will retire at the end of this year.

36 people are running for Governor with incumbent Kate Brown unable to run again due to term limits. Republican Court Boice was the last person to file for the office on Tuesday. He currently chairs the Curry County Board of Commissioners.

According to the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office, ballots for the May Primary will go out in the mail starting on April 27th
