The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has become aware of a new scam in which people are posing as employees for the County Assessor’s Office.

Lieutenant Brad O’Dell said it has been reported than an individual contacted a resident at their home indicating the supposed employee was there to collect past due taxes. O’Dell said this is a scam and county government will not send anyone to homes to collect taxes.

O’Dell said it is the practice of the Assessor’s Office for employees to provide residents with their business card and present their employee identification. Assessor’s employees will only arrive at resident’s property during business hours Mondays through Thursdays.

O’Dell said if there is ever a question about the validity of the person’s notification, the Assessor’s Office can be contacted at 440-4222.
