TRANSIENT JAILED FOR ALLEGED ASSAULT

A transient was jailed for an alleged prior assault by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

A DCSO report said Monday just after 10:00 p.m. a victim confronted the 56-year old suspect after seeing him rifle through the compartments on his trailer in the 100 block of Reed Street in Canyonville. The victim followed the suspect across the fence from city hall to Reed Street where the suspect allegedly grabbed a metal bar and struck the victim over the head. The report said that left at least a six-inch gouge across the victim’s head. The victim had been bleeding profusely but was able to get it to stop.

The deputy checked the suspects trailer and the nearby area but he was not there. The victim was transported by ambulance.

The report said the deputy contacted the suspect Tuesday who admitted to hitting the victim over the head with a 4-foot board. The suspect said this took place after the victim had knocked on the suspect’s door and was upset because he thought the suspect had stolen some things.

The suspect was charged with third-degree assault. Bail was set at $50,000.
