The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation is supporting Alrusa International of Roseburg during the Celebration of Literacy.

Maxine Durst of Altrusa said their group would not be able to invest in books without the foundation’s assistance. The Foundation recently contributed $4,000 to organization. Durst said through the Celebration of Literacy, Altrusa hopes to release over 5,000 books into Douglas County, primarily for children.

Durst said given the opportunity to read, children will develop a love of reading that will last a lifetime.

Durst said thanks to the financial assistance of the Foundation, many groups in the county are able to advance.
