The Celebration of Literacy is underway in Douglas County.

Presented by Altrusa International of Roseburg and the Umpqua Literacy Council, a series of events and activities are taking place over the next few weeks to highlight the importance of reading.

Upcoming activities include:

*On Wednesday, students at the Boys and Girls Club will make valentines to go to veterans at the Roseburg VA Hospital. Club staff will help with the event. Altrusa will then pick up the cards and take them to the VA

*A gigantic book giveaway will take place Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm. at Fir Grove Elementary in Roseburg. It will be done in a drive through format, due to the pandemic. Each child can get 4 books. Call 673-3578 for details

*Go Wild with Reading at Wildlife Safari is set for Saturday February 19th. From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. vehicles with Douglas County children will get free entry to the drive through. Activities will take place in the Safari Village as well.
