A Springfield man was jailed on assault charges following an alleged incident on Monday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Officer report said at 8:00 p.m. a deputy responded to the 200 block of Cedar Street in Yoncalla, for an alleged physical assault and contacted the victim who had a swollen, black right eye. She claimed the suspect had thrown her down and punched her in the side of the face. She had minor swelling and redness on the left side of her face.

The report said the fight started when the victim confronted the suspect about giving her a black eye the night before. The suspect had allegedly thrown his jacket with a rock inside of it, resulting in the black eye.

The suspect pressed charges for both incidents. The 24-year old was cited for two counts of fourth-degree assault. Bail
