NATIONAL GUARD HELPING AT CHI MERCY MEDICAL CENTER

January 22, 2022 3:40 a.m.

Members of the Oregon National Guard are back helping at CHI Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.

Mercy’s Director of Communications and Marketing Sara Baumgartner told News Radio 1240 KQEN that 23 members of the Guard will be at the hospital through the end of March. Baumgartner said they work in non-clinical roles which vary depending on what the staffing needs are. Guardsmen help with housekeeping duties, materials and inventory supplies, and working as screeners at both entrances to the facility. Baumgartner said the Guard is great at flexing to what ever the needs may be.

This is the second time in recent months the Guard has helped Mercy. A group working in similar ways, came to the hospital starting in August when the surge of the Delta variant began.

Approximately 1,200 members of the Oregon National Guard are assisting at around 40 hospitals around Oregon.
