Valynn Currie, Chair of the Douglas County Republican Party, has filed to run for the County Commissioner seat currently held by Tim Freeman.

Currie, who has been a realtor for over 40 years, told News Radio 1240 KQEN that she will ensure transparency on the board if elected. Currie said, “I will keep the confidence of the people and not create an atmosphere of mistrust”.  Currie said she will fix what she called, “the Constitutional problem with all Commissioners running at the same time”.

Currie said she decided to run in November after what she said was a “non-starter meeting with the Commissioners, where two commissioners got up and walked out in the first few minutes, rather than talk with Party leaders”. Currie did not identify which Commissioners she was referring to.

Curry said “The Commissioners office does not belong to the commissioner, it belongs to the residents of Douglas County”.

Currie is the owner of Currieco Real Estate. She is a former president of the Winston Chamber of Commerce and has served on numerous boards in the local area.

Curry joins Brandy Stone in the race against Freeman.
