The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man after a lengthy police chase on Monday.
A DCSO report said at about 10:30 p.m. a deputy observed a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a business in the 4600 block of Carnes Road in Green.
As the deputy pulled up behind the vehicle, the man at the wheel began to drive away. The deputy initiated his overhead lights to conduct a traffic stop and the sedan came to a stop in the parking lot. The report said the deputy told the driver to shutoff the vehicle but the suspect became argumentative and did not want to. As the deputy was waiting for backup, the driver, identified as 29-year old Jesse Dewbre, cooperated and turned the engine off. Shortly after, Debrew turned the vehicle back on and took off.
Dewbre drove northeast on Carnes Road. A pursuit was initiated but was quickly terminated due to the weather conditions. The deputy trailed the sedan, observing it turn left onto Green Siding Road. He lost sight of it but shortly after located it on Austin Road. The deputy continued to trail the vehicle but lost sight of it while on Colonial.
The deputy drove back towards Roseburg from Melrose Road. Units continued canvassing for the sedan. Eventually the deputy spotted the car again and trailed it out Garden Valley Road and down Del Rio, where he again lost sight of it. Since it was snowing consistently the deputy was able to follow the vehicle’s tracks, eventually spotting it again in the 500 block of Westview Road, where the deputy saw the driver standing by the car.
The report said when the suspect saw the deputy, he took off on foot. Another deputy, this one with K9 Ozzy, began pursuing Dewbre on foot. The suspect was pursued through 6 to 8 inches of snow and did not comply with commands. Eventually his tracks were followed to a creek. K9 Ozzy alerted to the man’s location, allowing for deputies to challenge him. The suspect was eventually taken into custody.
Dewbre was cleared at CHI Mercy Medical Center and taken to jail.
He was charged with elude in a vehicle and on foot, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving and for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Bail was set at $162,500.
