A warming center will be open in the City of Sutherlin on Monday night.

Coordinator Wayne Ellsworth said the center opened Sunday night in the Sutherlin Community Center for those suffering from the lack of proper housing, heating, clothing or food insecurities. Ellsworth said it was coordinated by the city, Sutherlin Fire Department, Sutherlin Family Church, Loads of Love and local volunteers.

Ellsworth said volunteers worked four-hour shifts. Those in need were screened for COVID-19, offered a space within Douglas Public Health Network social distancing guidelines, and fed a meal from Domino’s Pizza. Breakfast was provided by a local ministry along with a donation of baked goods from Henry’s Bakery.

Ellsworth said the center will be open starting at 6:00 p.m., weather permitting. He said organizers will re-evaluate whether to open again on Tuesday night.
