Winter storm warnings are in effect for much of southern Oregon and surrounding areas.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service have a Winter Storming Warning for central Douglas County, Josephine and Jackson counties, and eastern Curry County from 10:00 p.m. Sunday evening through 10:00 p.m. Monday night above 2,500 feet. Heavy snow with accumulations of up to 9 inches are expected.  Forecasters said snow levels may drop to around 2,000 feet or lower briefly at times, possibly affecting passes on Interstate 5 between Roseburg and Grants Pass.

A Winter Storm Warning is in place through 10:00 p.m. Monday evening for the south- central Oregon Cascades including Crater Lake and Diamond Lake. Heavy snow with amounts between 12 and 20 inches is forecast.

Forecasters said travel in the region is strongly discouraged because of dangerous conditions. A Winter Storm Warning means that severe winter weather is imminent and poses a threat to life and property.
