FAMILY WELLNESS EVENT THIS WEEKEND

December 10, 2021 3:50 a.m.

11 local organizations committed to improving community health are teaming up for the Family Wellness Wonderland this weekend at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

The Creating Community Resilience Coalition is hosting the event.

CCR Community Engagement Coordinator Lee Ann Grogan said health is impacted by many things and the goal is to help people learn and connect with the many resources in the community that can support well-being. Grogan said vaccines are part of what helps a community be healthy but so is access to healthy food, high quality early child education, parenting support, mental health services and physical activity.

Aviva Health will be offering a comprehensive vaccine clinic including all childhood vaccines, flu vaccines, and COVID-19 vaccines for ages 5 and up, including COVID boosters. Those interested in vaccine services do not need to be Aviva patients, but an ID and an insurance card are required.

Family Wellness Wonderland will feature booths from CCR member organizations as well as other community partners offering information about topics like nutrition, home visiting programs, STEAM learning, mental health services, and disaster preparedness. Along with plenty of games and activities, an ice-skating rink will be on site.

The free event is Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information about the coalition, go to: www.ccrdouglascounty.org
