An SPD report said at about 7:30 a.m. an officer spotted a sedan which had an expired registration and was not insured, in the 200 block of South Calapooia Street. When the vehicle was stopped, the driver, 35-year old Samuel Scevers, allegedly fled on foot. After a brief chase, the suspect was cornered and a taser was deployed until backup units arrived on the scene and he was taken into custody.

He also reportedly had a lot of packaging, two digital scales, a lot of used and unused needles, and other drug paraphernalia. Charges included unlawful possession and delivery of meth, attempt to elude police on foot, resisting arrest, third-degree escape, interfering, and for failure to carry and present. Scevers also had four felony warrants out of Douglas and Coos counties. Bail was set at $170,000.
