Senator Ron Wyden has announced that he and Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee have placed a friendly “wager” on Saturday’s football game between Oregon and Utah.

A release said the winners of the “bet” will be community members facing food insecurity in both states, and the food banks working year-round to help fight hunger.

The release said thanks to Farmers Ending Hunger and the Tillamook County Creamery Association in Oregon, 15,000 pounds of ground beef and more than 20,000 pounds of cheese and dairy products are Wyden’s part of the wager with the Utah Food Bank being the recipient. Lee’s wager, thanks to Smithfield Foods in Utah, is 40,000 pounds of pork, with the Oregon Food Bank and Food for Lane County being the recipients. No matter the results of the game, the food banks in both states, will “collect their winning”.

Representatives of the organizations benefiting from the “bet”, thanked both senators and food producers for their donations.
