The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has announced memorial service arrangements for Deputy Matthew Harmon.

Lieutenant Brad O’Dell said the service will be held on Saturday November 13th at 1:00 p.m. in the Community Conference Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. It is open to the public. O’Dell said a procession of emergency vehicles and family will precede the service departing from the Douglas County Courthouse and heading to the fairgrounds via West Harvard Avenue.

O’Dell said Deputy Harmon, age 53, passed away at home on October 26th, following a sudden cardiac medical event while off-duty.

Deputy Harmon began serving with DCSO in 2003 as a Reserve Deputy. In 2010, he accepted a full-time job in the Corrections Division where he worked until his passing. During his tenure, Deputy Harmon served as the Work Crew Supervisor from 2017-2019. Deputy Harmon had previously served as a reserve officer with the Oakland Police Department from 1996-1997.

O’Dell said Deputy Harmon will receive police honors at his service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Friends of the Umpqua Valley Police K9 Program, at P.O. Box 213, Roseburg, 97470.
