The driver was injured in a single-vehicle wreck on Highway 38 on Tuesday.

A report from Oregon State Police said just before 1:40 p.m. the 83-year old was headed westbound in a pickup between Scottsburg and Wells Creek when the vehicle drifted off the roadway, sideswiping the rock slope with the passenger side of the pickup before impacting head on into an earthen embankment.

The driver was transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport. The report said the man claimed he took evasive action to avoid a collision with an oncoming driver, prior to the crash.  The vehicle was towed from the scene.
