COVID-19 has claimed 40 more lives, raising the state’s death toll to 4,275, as of Thursday.
An update from the Oregon Health Authority reported 1,407 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to 356,061.
OHA said the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 567, which is 1 fewer than on Wednesday. There are 133 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit beds, which is 7 more than on Wednesday.
OHA’s most recent update on COVID-19 breakthrough cases, released on Thursday, found that 76.5 percent of the 6,446 reported COVID-19 cases between October 10th and October 16th, occurred in people who were unvaccinated. There were 1,977 breakthrough cases, accounting for 23.5 percent of all cases.
OHA’s report said cases of COVID-19 are far more common in unvaccinated people. The rate of COVID-19 in unvaccinated people is currently 4 times higher than in vaccinated people. To date, 4.4 percent of all vaccine breakthrough cases have been hospitalized and 1 percent have died. The average age of vaccinated people who died was 80.
