Searchers have recovered the body of Branda Hoyle, who went missing on September 25th.

Lieutenant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the 43-year old Roseburg woman was on an outing with family members when she walked away from the group near Toketee. They called 911 after not being able to locate her.

On Monday afternoon at approximately 1:00 p.m. a 911 caller reported finding a deceased body along the North Umpqua River, around 2.5 miles north east of the Umpqua Hot Springs on the North Umpqua Trail. O’Dell said deputies and searchers responded and determined that the body was that of Branda Hoyle.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner is investigating the death. At this time, there are no indications of foul play. Prolonged exposure to the elements is considered to be the highest concerning factors.

O’Dell said a large-scale search operation had been underway since Hoyle’s disappearance, but revealed no clue as to her whereabouts. DCSO’s Search and Rescue crews requested and received assistance from SAR personnel in Jackson and Lane counties along with the Oregon State Police, the Oregon State Search and Rescue Coordinator and the United States Coast Guard. Efforts included ground searchers, mountain rescue searchers, K9 teams, 4×4 teams and air resources including aircraft and drones. Pacific Corp. and the U.S. Forest Service also provided support.
