NO INCREASE OF FIRE BEHAVIOR ON SMITH FIRE

September 27, 2021  9:40 a.m.

Despite gusty winds, fire behavior did not increase on the Smith Fire on Sunday, in the Devils Knob Complex.

An update from Pacific Northwest Team 2 said additional excavators and chippers were brought in to complete repair work. Crews were able to make good progress with suppression repairs, in the warm weather.

Rain is expected to last in the fire area through Tuesday morning. Up to one inch of rain is expected. Minimal fire behavior is expected on the Smith Fire. Fire managers believe that areas of uncontained fire perimeter that continue to hold heat in the Quartz Creek drainage and south of Hemlock Lake will be cooled with this round of precipitation.

There has been no growth on the Big Hamlin Fire or on the Smith Fire. Containment remains at 100 percent and 42 percent respectively.
