MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED RAPE FOLLOWING A SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

A 31-year old man was charged with first-degree attempted rape, second-degree assault and harassment, following a sexual assault investigation near downtown Roseburg on Tuesday.

Sergeant Daniel Allen of Roseburg Police said at approximately 1:10 p.m. officers and detectives responded to area of the 500 block of Northeast Winchester Street following a reported stabbing and attempted rape. Allen said when they arrived, they found a 60-year old Roseburg woman was injured due to a stab wound. The victim was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect in the case, Brandon Kittleson was detained a block away next to the offices of the News Review and Brooke Communications. Bail was set at $352,250.

Allen said the suspect and the victim did not appear to be known to each other.
