The City of Roseburg Fire Department will issue residential burn permits during the month of October.

Fire Chief Monte Bryan said the permits are issued for seven days at a cost of $75. Bryan said residential yard waste is the only material that can be burned. Prohibited items include standing berry vines, paper, wood, plastics, tires, standing grass, weeds, construction material and material from lot clearing. Burning may not be done on vacant lots or on someone else’s property. Bryan said fires must be monitored by a competent adult and extinguished prior to darkness. Tools to control or extinguish the fire must be on-site whenever there is material burning.

An RFD release said burn barrels are never allowed inside the city limits. Anyone burning trash or burning without a permit may be subject to a fine and/or legal action.

Residents are encouraged to utilize alternatives to burning, such as composting, chipping, mulching or transporting the debris to the Douglas County Landfill. More information about these options can be found at: www.recyclepower.org/wood.asp

Bryan said to request a burn permit in the City of Roseburg, call 492-6700 weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A burn permit request form is also available at: www.cityofroseburg.org/departments/fire/permits-and-forms
