CAMPFIRES ALLOWED IN COUNTY OPERATED CAMPGROUNDS

September 18, 2021 8:30 a.m.

Campfires are allowed again at inland Douglas County operated designated campgrounds.

A release from the Board of Commissioners said the decision had been made due to the change in weather conditions. The new order removes the temporary ban issued August 5th that was put into place due to extreme fire risk, excessive heat and severe drought.

Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said DFPA’s Public Use Restrictions apply to all county parks, campgrounds and day use areas protected by the agency. Reed said the restrictions have not changed so campfires are only allowed in designated campgrounds. County designated campgrounds are located at Amacher Park, Chief Miwaleta Campground, Douglas County Fairgrounds, Pass Creek Campground, Stanton Park and Whistler’s Bend Campground. Reed said campfires are not allowed at Mildred Kanipe Campground.
