DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX WITH CALMER FIRE BEHAVIOR

September 12, 2021 2:40 p.m.

The Devil’s Knob Complex continues to have calmer fire behavior.

An update from the Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team said the cooperative weather of recent days has allowed fire managers to modify containment strategies in some areas and adopt a smaller footprint. Indirect line preparation continues as a contingency and will provide additional defense should the fire move out of primary lines. The high humidity, cool temperatures, and calm winds diminished flame heights and fire spread enabling firefighters to work directly on the edge.

The Smith Fire is still at 44,410 acres with containment up to 20 percent. The Big Hamlin Fire is 19,035 acres and still is 75 percent contained.
