Douglas County Commissioners have issued a proclamation in honor of Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance, asking the residents of Douglas County to honor and remember the 2,996 individuals who lost their lives, the 6,000 who were injured, and the heroes that selflessly rushed into the rubble to save lives on that fateful day twenty years ago, Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

“This year marks the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. The day when cowardly terrorists senselessly attacked the World Trade Center in New York City, The Pentagon in Washington D.C., and crashed United Flight 93 in a Pennsylvania field. It was one of the most horrific days in our nation’s history”.

“Patriot Day is also the National Day of Service and Remembrance. It is a day to think of others and give back to our community. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners encourage our residents to learn more about volunteer opportunities in our local communities and take the initiative to sign up, volunteer, give back and serve those in need”.
