FIRE ACTIVITY ON DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX DIMINISHED

September 10, 2021 10:40 a.m.

Fire activity on the Devil’s Knob Complex has diminished due to low temperatures and high humidity.

An update from the Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team said these conditions allowed fire managers to utilize firefighting resources to further secure fire perimeters, build direct fire line, and extinguish spot fires from several days ago. On Thursday night, rain across the fire was spotty with rain concentrated on the eastern edge. Now that smoke has decreased over much of the complex, firefighters will be able to receive more assistance from aerial resources.

The Smith Fire is still at 43,226 acres and is 14 percent contained. The Big Hamlin Fire remains at 18,957 acres and 63 percent contained.
