SENIOR SERVICES NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

September, 2021 3:40 a.m.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners have issued an urgent call for volunteers to help the Senior Services Department in preparing, dispersing, and delivering meals to seniors.

Volunteers are needed for the senior Meals on Wheels and senior dining site drive through meal pick up programs.

Commissioners said that locally there has been a significant rise in the need for senior meals since the pandemic began over 17 months ago. Volunteers are needed to help as greeters, servers, drivers, kitchen helpers, dishwashers, back-up drivers, cleaning crew and steam table helpers.

For delivering meals, volunteers are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays for around 2 hours each day. A mileage reimbursement is offered and those helping will receive a free lunch every day they volunteer.

At the dining sites, volunteers are needed Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for 2 to 3 hours a day. Help is needed to set up, serve, clean up and do dishes for lunch. Those helping at the dining sites, also get a free lunch every day they help. Senior dining sites are in Glendale, Riddle, Winston, Glide, Sutherlin, Yoncalla and Reedsport.

Call Senior Services at 440-3677 for more information on becoming a volunteer.
