The Devil’s Knob Complex has grown by around 1,700 acres, as it burns on the Tiller Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest.

An update said the Southern Area Red Team has taken command of the fire.

On the Smith Fire, crews are taking advantage of moderated fire behavior and utilizing dozers to build direct line along the northwest edge of the fire to reduce its future footprint. Crews continue to mop up previous firing operations and prepare roads for future use as fire lines throughout the perimeter. In Ash Valley, two task forces of engines from Douglas and Linn counties through the Office of Oregon State Fire Marshal, as well as resources from the Douglas Forest Protective Association are in place and working to protect structures and limit the fire’s impact in that area.

On the Big Hamlin Fire, crews continue with strategic firing operations as weather conditions allow along the southern perimeter of the fire. Crews continue to mop up from previous firing operations throughout the western edge and work to identify and construct indirect holding features along the eastern flank.

The Dismal Creek, Little Applegate, Mule Creek, Section 30, and Wild Cat fires have all been contained and are in patrol status.

The Devil’s Knob Complex remains 25 percent contained, with 674 people assigned to the fire.
