The Devil’s Knob Complex, burning on the Tiller Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest, is now over 1,000 acres larger.

An update from Great Basin Incident Management Team 2 said the acreage total is now at 24,662, with the containment level still at 25 percent.

The update said warm, dry conditions persisted throughout the area and fires remained active, most notably the Smith Fire. Good progress is being made in adding control line. Burning operation are holding well in most locations. The Smith Fire is challenging these efforts, as the fire continues to spread near the 28 Road on both sides of the fire. Additional resources, including two strike teams of engines from the Oregon Office of the State Fire Marshal, are in place in the valley for structure protection.

632 people are currently assigned to the Devil’s Knob Complex.
