August 21, 2021 6:40 a.m.

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and local departments responded to two fires on Friday.

Kyle Reed of DFPA said at about 12:20 p.m. their firefighters along with Douglas County Fire District No. 2 were dispatched to a grass fire about 10 miles west of Roseburg, near Oakley Road. Reed said the fire had spread from an illegal burn barrel. The forward spread of the Oakley Road Fire was stopped at 1/10th of an acre of grass. The responsible party was issued a citation for burning without a permit and will likely be billed for fire suppression costs.

Reed said while crews were working on the Oakley Road Fire, a second grass fire was reported near the 4,000 block of Lookingglass Road. Firefighters from DFPA and from the Lookingglass Rural Fire Department responded to the incident at around 12:30 p.m. Reed said a small fire was located near the roadway that had been knocked down by passing motorists. The Lookingglass Road Fire burned about 1/100th of an acre of grass. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
