DAYS CREEK CHARTER SCHOOL LIBRARY REOPENING

August 19, 2021 3:40 a.m.

The Days Creek Charter School is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand reopening of the school’s library/media center/learning commons.

Superintendent Steve Woods said the ceremony is set for Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. during the Back-to-School BASH. Woods said the library received a makeover thanks to the Ford Family Foundation, community sponsors and volunteers.

With the new look, Woods said small groups of students will get more one-on-one time to create and explore areas of interest that are not as easily available in a larger classroom. The area has a bubble tube, Makerspace, and comfortable seating and is appealing to visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners.

Funding from a grant was used to purchase seating including sitting mats, cushioned chairs, a rug and beanbags.

Woods said the project was a success in part due to the Parent Teacher Club that hosted a Sponsor a Bookcase fundraiser. A grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries provided new books.

The library was previously located in the school building but is now in a campus portable with accessible parking. Woods said the library will be used outside of normal school hours to host reading nights, book clubs and other events.
