DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX GROWS BY 2,000 ACRES

August 18, 2021 10:30 a.m.

The Devil’s Knob Complex of fires, on the Tiller Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest has grown by about 2,000 acres.

Great Basin Incident Management Team 2 has taken command of the fire.

An update said fire activity on Tuesday was moderate, due to light morning precipitation, decreased temperatures and lingering humidity. Clearing skies in the afternoon allowed firefighters to assess Monday’s fire growth on the Smith and Big Hamlin fires, as well as identify areas of additional spotting.

The update said control lines are generally holding well on the north and west portions of the fires. Fire officials are scouting opportunities for additional locations to catch and suppress the fires in advance of the fire perimeters to the east and southeast, as well as directly creating line around spots and the fire perimeter where possible.

The Devil’s Knob Complex is now just under 15,700 acres, with containment remaining at 15 percent.
