An Oakland man has been charged with manslaughter for the death of his 81-year old stepfather.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said on Saturday night shortly after 5:30 p.m. 59-year old Anthony Wadley-Wright turned himself in at the Sutherlin Police Department. Wadley-Wright said he had assaulted Anthony Carrington at the family home in the 300 block of Brad Road. O’Dell said the assault had occurred the previous night and had gone unreported to emergency services.
EMS and law enforcement responded to the home and found the victim unconscious and badly injured. Carrington was transported by air ambulance to Peace Health Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield. O’Dell said the victim succumbed to his injuries late Sunday afternoon.
Wadley-Wright was taken into custody for first degree counts of manslaughter and criminal mistreatment and for second-degree assault. Bail was set at $675,000.
O’Dell said the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information which may help detectives is asked to call DCSO at 440-4458.
