Firefighters and equipment from multiple agencies responded to a natural cover fire on Saturday afternoon, 12 miles west of Winston, near Iverson Park.

Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews arrived on the scene of the Iverson Park Fire at around 12:30 p.m. and reported that it was a quarter of an acre in size, burning in grass, brush and young trees. Reed said that 2 helicopters were dispatched to the incident to slow the fires spread while ground resources worked to install fire hose and construct containment lines around the perimeter of the fire.

The Iverson Park Fire burned an acre of vegetation before the forward spread of the fire was stopped. Reed said crews remained on the scene throughout the remainder of the day, working to fully extinguish the smoking and smoldering material within the burned area. No homes were threatened. The cause of the Iverson Park Fire is under investigation.

Reed said firefighters from DFPA, rural fire departments in Tenmile, Lookingglass and Camas Valley and the Coos Forest Protective Association all responded to the Iverson Park Fire.
