DCSO issues Level 2 “Be Set” evacuation notice for Devil’s Knob Road

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has updated an evacuation notice for residents on Devil’s Knob Road near the Big Hamlin Fire currently burning in the Devil’s Knob Complex.

All residents located on Devil’s Knob Road now fall under a Level 2 “Be Set” evacuation notice. The increased warning means there is significant danger in the area and residents should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.

More evacuation resources – like maps – can be found on the DCSO website.

Crews have continued to make progress on the more than 40 fires burning in the Devil’s Knob Complex on the Tiller Ranger District and Umpqua National Forest, but the latest update from Northwest Incident Management Team 8 says the fires are now covering 5,793 acres, and addition over more than 1,100 acres since last night.

The lightning caused fires are only 5% contained and crews continue to prioritize taking suppression actions on larger fires that are on or near private property and homes.

Eight smaller fires within the complex are considered either controlled or out, but three of the bigger fires have merged and are being referred to as the Big Hamlin Fire, which is now listed at 3,562 acres in size.
