DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX 54 PERCENT CONTAINED

August 6, 2021 10:10 a.m.

The Devil’s Knob Complex is 54 percent contained, and burning in 466 acres.

The complex is made up of 50 lightning caused fires with the majority burning on the Tiller Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forecast.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 8 said the Complex is divided into 2 Branches and 6 Divisions to provide better management and oversight of suppression efforts. Firefighters are scouting for and suppressing small incidents and prioritizing opportunities on larger fires with the highest probability of success. Many of the smaller fires in the complex are reaching full containment and starting mop-up operations.

Steep ground and access issues are hindering efforts to establish fire line on several of the fires within the complex. Aircraft is being shared from other nearby complexes when the air is clear enough for safe flying.

357 people are working on the Devil’s Knob Complex.
