SKYLINE RIDGE COMPLEX BURNING IN SOUTHERN DOUGLAS COUNTY

August 4, 2021 4:00 a.m.

The Skyline Ridge Complex of fires is burning in southern Douglas County and is now under the command of the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team 1.

An update said the fires range from less than an acre to over 600 acres and are burning on a mix of public and private forestland, east of Interstate Five. Firefighters from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service have been aggressively attacking the blazes while providing for public and firefighter safety.

The largest fires in the complex include Poole Creek which is between 500 and 700 acres, O’Shea at over 100 acres, and Ike’s Butte which is between 40 and 60 acres.

The update said despite high temperatures and low humidity, crews are making progress – getting control lines built and working towards containment. The suppression strategy is to keep the small fires small and prevent them from turning into larger, more problematic incidents.

Progress on the Skyline Ridge Complex has been hampered by a lack of resources. As more resources arrive over the next few days, crews will be tackling the larger fires within the complex.

Over 300 people are working on the Skyline Ridge Complex of Fires. Updates are available at: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7762/
