JACK FIRE REMAINS 55 PERCENT CONTAINED, 19,643 ACRES

The Jack Fire, burning on the Umpqua National Forest, remains 55 percent contained, and is at 19,643 acres.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 10 said 729 people are working on the fire. Its burning in timber and brush. Northwest of Highway 138E, firefighters continue to successfully keep the fire perimeter within control lines. Mop up and patrolling of fire containment lines is taking place.

South of Highway 138E, crews along the west flank will be monitoring fire behavior to ensure that the fire remains within the control lines and will conduct burning operations where necessary. On the southeast and east portion of the fire, crews are working with heavy equipment to prepare control lines for potential burning operations. In addition, firefighters are scouting for alternate control lines along the southeast flank of the fire.

The Dry Creek area and Horseshoe Bend campground are being patrolled to maintain the safety of those locations.

The report said air support includes two Heavy Type 1 helicopters with buckets and one Heavy Type 1 helicopter with a tank along with one Light Type 3 helicopter.  A Temporary Flight Restriction over the Jack Fire continues, to protect aircraft that are involved in the firefighting operation.

Evacuation levels and locations announced by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, remain in effect.
