The Jack Fire, burning on the Umpqua National Forest, is 25 percent contained, and at 16,667 acres in the latest report.

Information from the Northwest Incident Management Team 9 said north of Highway 138E, resources continue to successfully hold the fire within the planned containment lines. Firefighters are working to clear vegetation on the remaining portion on the containment lines on the northern perimeter.

South of Highway 138E, fire-fighters aided by air resources have established containment lines along the eastern and western perimeter of the fire. Crews will continue bringing line down and around the southern edge of the fire with the goal of completing line construction within the planned containment area. The update said resources are using a combination of hand and dozer line support by water drops and fire suppressant to establish the remaining containment line. Firefighters will burn away vegetation when needed to maintain the line.

Evacuation locations and levels updated on Wednesday remain the same.

Highway 138E remains closed as geologists with the Oregon Department of Transportation and tree fallers are working to clear the highway of hazards for a possible re-opening by sometime this weekend. The closure remains between Steamboat Creek and mile post 55.
