AIR QUALITY ALERT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

July 12, 2021 2:50 p.m.

An Air Quality Alert is in effect for much of Douglas County and surrounding areas until further notice.

Information from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said a high concentration of smoke particulates from the Jack and Bootleg fires are impacting residents in central and eastern Douglas County, eastern Jackson county and all of Klamath and Lake counties.

The update said that smoke can irritate the eyes and lungs, and can worsen some medical conditions. People most at risk to adverse health effects include infants, young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant women.

When smoke levels are high, residents should:

*Stay inside if possible

*Avoid strenuous outdoor activity

*Use high efficiency particulate air filters in indoor ventilation systems or portable air filters

*Be aware of smoke and avoid places with the highest levels

*Those with heart or lung disease or asthma should follow their healthcare providers advice
