Elkton Community Education Center will present its annual Blooms & Butterflies celebration and 5K Butterfly Run on Saturday.

The day will begin with a family-oriented fun run and walk featuring a scenic route along the Umpqua River. Artisan, food and community information booths will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. offering locally made items, and tips for sustainable living.

ECEC Executive Director Marjory Hamann said due to COVID-19 a few changes have been made. Hamann said the Butterfly Run will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. so runners and walkers can leave at different times. Booths will be spread out and workshops will be offered multiple times. Most activities are outdoors, but masks are required inside the gift shop and the art gallery.

ECEC is part of the Department of Education’s Summer Food Program this year so those age 18 and under can eat for free. Adults can purchase a meal from a vendor at the event.

Race day registration begins at 9:00 a.m. The cost for adults is $5 and includes a commemorative sticker, snacks, prizes and more. A free quarter of a mile kid’s loop is available and participants are encouraged to wear butterfly costumes. A costume contest will take place at 1:00 p.m.

The festival will have over 20 booths. Workshops will be offered at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Live music will be featured throughout the day.
